The Baltimore liquor board voted Thursday to revoke the liquor license of the Stadium Lounge in Waverly, upholding a protest lodged by neighbors.
Board members voted 2-1 to uphold the protest against the bar at 3151-3153 Greenmount Ave. Chairman Albert Matricciani Jr. cast the dissenting vote.
Neighbors protested trash from the bar, potential danger to children who pass the bar when it's open early in the morning, drunken patrons loitering outside, and boarded-up windows.
"When we ask a community to suffer some of the insults and harms from a business that just won't do right, I think we ask too much of people," said commissioner Dana P. Moore.
Attorney Melvin Kodenski, who represented Stadium Lounge, said owner Domingo Kim will likely appeal the decision. The board did not grant a request for a stay, which would have allowed the bar to continue to sell alcohol until an appeal was decided.
The board heard the protest against the bar's license last month. Becky Witt, the attorney representing the residents who were protesting Stadium Lounge, challenged Kim's ownership of the license. Kim is not a Baltimore resident.
The board decided to take extra time to weigh the ownership challenge before ruling on the protest. The board decided there wasn't a strong enough case to revoke Kim's ownership of the license.
Last May, a previous liquor board found the bar had violated its license and ordered it to close for 180 days. The bar was closed for less than half that time when a subsequent board allowed it to reopen.
