Smashburger has closed its doors in Fells Point after just over a year in business.
The Denver-based burger chain opened at 616 S. Broadway on April 29, 2015. The restaurant was located at the Marketplace at Fells Point, a mixed-use development.
Christine Ferris, a spokeswoman for the company, confirmed the restaurant had closed.
"The location did not meet our rigorous performance standards and we had to make the difficult decision to close this location," she said in an email.
Calls to the restaurant were not answered, and the leasing agent for the space could not immediately be reached for comment. A link to the restaurant's location on Smashburger's website leads to the message, "The requested location is no longer available. Showing nearby locations."
Another Smashburger opened in Ellicott City late last year.
The rapidly expanding chain boasts patties that are "100 percent certified Angus beef" and serves chicken sandwiches, salads, shakes and fries alongside its selection of burgers.
