Small Bites: Ambassador Dining Room owners open Maple Lawn restaurant

Ananda, a new Indian restaurant from Binda and Kehar Singh, the brothers who own the Ambassador Dining Room in Tuscany-Canterbury, is now open in Howard County's Maple Lawn community.

Ananda, which serves a menu similar to the Ambassador, is in a quiet-opening, or soft-opening, phase -- the low-key method some restaurants use as they work out kinks and train the staff. The official opening will be in a few weeks, Binda Singh said.

Ananda is open daily from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ananda is at 7421 Maple Lawn Blvd. For information or to make reservations, call 301-725-4800 or go to the restaurant's Facebook page.

• Lobo, a new restaurant from the owner of One-Eyed Mike's, Michael Maraziti, is also having a quiet opening. Lobo opened mid-July in the former Pearl's space in Fells Point. The restaurant's opening menu included raw bar and charcuterie, salads, snacks, pickled items and dessert. Lobo is at 1900 Aliceanna St. For information call 410-327-0303 of go to the restaurant's Facebook page.

• Gertrude's is bringing back its Lobstermania promotion. On Thursday nights in August, John Shields' restaurant at the Baltimore Museum of Art will offer two lobster-intensive dinner packages. The $25.95 New England Meal features a simply steamed 1 1/4-pound Maine lobster served with baked potato, coleslaw and Maryland sweet white corn on the cob. The $31.95 Maryland-style Meal features a lobster stuffed with crab imperial. Both meals come with a baked potato, coleslaw. Reservations are recommended; the restaurant orders a limited number of lobsters each night.
