Saturday was a busy day. There was the book festival and Legacy Chase and Big in Japan and Height with Friends, and the list goes on and on. Where were you? Did you make it to the Deadmau5 show in Silver Spring earlier in the week? How did it compare to his set at Virgin FreeFest? This week, the big acts are Chris Brown and a pair of iconic 90s indie musicians, Jeff Mangum and Stephen Malkmus. Elsewhere, there is: Gunky's Basement, Shellac, the Nintendo Challenge Level 3, Second City, the Baker Artist Awards and Deep Sugar.

On Monday, it's the first of Jeff Mangum's two nights at 2640, 2640 St. Paul Street. Mangum is playing few shows on his Fall tour, and Baltimore snagged two of them. Ticket purchases are limited to two per person. The one-hour show starts at 6 p.m. $27.

On Tuesday, Gunky's Basement returns to the Charles with the excellent Paul Verhoeven's "Starship Troopers." Dan Deacon and Jimmy Joe Roche will again introduce the movie. 9 p.m. 1711 N. Charles St. $5.
