Rams Head Live, 9:30 Club ranked among top-selling in the world

, are among the highest-grossing clubs in the world, according to Pollstar.

The 9:30 Club ranks in second place, and Rams Head in 11th place in the trade magazine's annual list of the top 100 clubs worldwide according to ticket sales. The 9:30 Club sold over 250,000 tickets in 2011; Rams Head over 140,000.

The magazine considers clubs venues that don't have fixed seating and/or are open when there aren't any concerts. The 9:30 Club, which has a capacity of about 1,200 people, still claims it's the top of its size; Terminal 5 in New York City, the highest-selling club according to Pollstar, can hold about 3,000.

It's not clear how the Fillmore Silver Spring,

to both venues, performed since it opened in September; Live Nation, which runs the club, doesn't release its sales figures to Pollstar.

At the 9:30 Club, The Cars, Paul Simon, The Pogues,The Smashing Pumpkins, and Jeff Beck were all tied for top-selling concerts, said a venue spokeswoman.

At Rams Head,

was the highest-grossing, followed by

, and Staind, a spokesman said. Rams Head includes merchandise and ancillary sales in its own rankings.

According to Rams Head, which can hold 1,400 people, it's the club's highest ranking on the list since it opened in 2004. The 9:30 Club is accustomed to the accolades - last year,

said it was among America's most influential.

Though concert venues reported mixed business last year, local venues seem to have performed well - 1st Mariner Arena was the highest grossing of its size,

On Pollstar's clubs list, Rams Head on Stage in Annapolis came in at 26 in the world. Several other regional clubs - including the Birchmere in Alexandria, and Jammin' Java in Vienna, both in Virginia - also made the cut.
