Rallo's owner, Vincent Rallo, died in July, leaving uncertain the fate of the south side restaurant. Now, I've heard that tomorrow will be Rallo's last day. I wasn't able to confirm this; dinner hours had been discontinued at the restaurant even before Mr. Rallo's death.

If Rallo's is closing, it will leave Baltimore without another old-fashioned place. "The restaurant was known for its generous breakfasts ... (and for) heaping portions of beef or chicken stew, lima bean and pea soup, fried crab cakes, chili con carne, Spanish omelets, braunschweiger sandwiches, and sour beef and dumplings," Fred Rasmussen wrote in Mr. Rallo's obituary.
