Pizza Studio opening in Charles Village

The Southern California-based chain Pizza Studio, which invites customers to "create their own masterpiece," will open its first Maryland location on Thursday in Charles Village.

Founded by former Maryland residents Samit Varma and Ron Biskin in 2013, Pizza Studio is among a new wave of customizable, build-your-own-pizza concepts spreading across the country.

Pizza Studio will occupy a storefront location in the Village Loft apartments at 3201 St. Paul St., a mixed-use condominium project, whose other retail tenants include Chipotle and Coldstone Creamery, two of the giants in the "build-your-own" restaurant world.

The Baltimore-based Bagby Restaurant Group is opening its own customizable pizza restaurant this spring at the Festival of Woodholme shopping center in Pikesville. And the owners of the Ellicott City-based Coal Fire Pizza are readying their build-your-own-pizza concept for The Shops at Canton Crossing, where Venti Tre closed in early February.

Pizza Studio will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information go to pizzastudio.com.
