Pete's Grille has announced the date for its annual pancake-eating contest.

The contest will begin promptly at 7 a.m. on Nov. 21. Those interested in participating in the amateurs-only contest can start signing up at the restaurant on Nov. 3, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

But it's not too soon to start training for the contest, in which participants eat as many pancakes as they can in one hour. There is a $500 prize for the winners of the men's and women's division

The all-time men's record, according to owner David Stahl, is 18 pancakes. The women's record is 14 pancakes.

• Maggie's Farm (4341 Harford Road, 410-254-2376, maggiesfarmmd.com) is hosting 'Sters and Spirits, a benefit oyster feast on Oct. 30. The evening event will feature local oysters by the dozen and half-dozen as well as wine and beer specials and craft cocktails. Chef Andrew Weinzirl is creating a fixed-price three-course menu for the event.

A percentage of sales from 'Sters and Spirits is being donated to Our Heroes Network, a Baltimore-based non-profit that provides support and resources to veterans and first responders with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions.

The three-course menu cost $45, and all menu items will be available a la carte, too. Reservations are encouraged.

• Snyder's Willow Grove, which left its long-time, flood-plagued Linthicum home this spring, reopened Monday in the Burwood Plaza shopping center in Glen Burnie.

When an April 30 flood damaged Snyder's previous location, the fourth such setback in recent years, the owners decided to relocate rather than repair the damaged property.

Snyder's is at 7089A Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. For information call 410-694-9449. A new website is under construction.
