A new Indian restaurant has moved into the space last occupied by India Rasoi in Little Italy.Chef-owner Chander Shekhar opened Little India at 411 S. High St. about two weeks ago.Shekhar previously owned Saagar Indian Cuisine in Gaithersburg. That restaurant closed, and he turned his sights to Baltimore. He began leasing the Little Italy space in August.Little India replaces India Rasoi, which closed in 2013, and the new restaurant is among a wave of businesses breathing new life into Little Italy. Mugs' Italian Bistro recently reopened under new ownership. And Boston's Sports Bar & Restaurant plans to open in the former Velleggia's Italian Seafood Restaurant space next year. Several apartment projects are in the works in the neighborhood, too.Open daily for lunch and dinner, Little India seats about 70 guests. The menu includes a wide variety of Indian cuisine, as well as some of what Shekhar calls "Indian-Italian" fare, cooked with wine and herbs. He said his cuisine would appeal to spice lovers and the spice-averse alike."You won't find this menu anywhere in Baltimore," Shekhar said.Appetizers range from $3 to $9, and entrees run $11 to $22. The restaurant does not offer a lunch buffet, but its lunch combo specials range from $7.95 to $10.95.Little India is open for lunch 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
