Mt. Vernon Marketplace, a 15,000 square-foot complex that will house 13 unique concept eateries, will hold its grand opening from 5 to 9 tonight.

The space, on the ground level of the newly developed apartment building at 520 Park Ave., will be open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The marketplace project has taken just about a year to complete, according to Dominic Wiker, development director for the Time Group, which owns the property.

"This is a big step for us," Wiker said. "It is unique in the city. We're out in front on this one."

All but three "stalls" are currently occupied, according to Wiker.

Current retailers feature everything from African cuisine and oysters to dumplings and sorbet.

"It's a pretty interesting place," Wiker said.

The location has 150 seats in the common area, but there is additional bar-style seating at the stalls, according to Wiker.

More than 1,000 people RSVP'd for tonight's grand opening, Wiker said.

"It's open to the public. And the doors are wide open," he said. "We want to mark this as a major milestone. We'll have music and promotions. All are welcome."
