Woodberry Kitchen founder Spike Gjerde is hosting a legislative reception on Wednesday night in Annapolis.
Don't be jealous. The evening's hot conversation topic will be hydraulic fracturing, better known as fracking.
Billed as "an evening with farmers and food artisans," the event's invitees are members of the Senate and House committees that deal with environmental issues. A longtime advocate for environmentally responsible food sourcing, Gjerde is organizing the reception on behalf of advocates for a long-term moratorium on fracking in Maryland.
The fare at the reception, which is being held at the AIA Maryland chapter house, will include Chesapeake Bay oysters and "Maryland-grown and crafted" cheeses and wines. Proponents of a bill under consideration in this current legislative session say that more studies need to be done on the effect fracking has on the food chain.
