Mother's Grille is opening a third location, this one in Timonium.
Mother's North Grille is on track to open in late February at 2430 Broad Ave. in Timonium, replacing an Applebee's in the Broad Street Market shopping center.
Owner Dave Rather said he had been searching for a location in Baltimore County for a while and "never found quite the right one." He targeted the Timonium area because so many customers there are familiar with Mother's, a Federal Hill staple whose name is drawn from Rather's college nickname, "Mother Dave."
Workers are gutting the space, building a new bar, and installing new kitchen equipment, furniture, flooring and decor in time for its February debut.
Rather said Mother's North Grille will be similar to Mother's Peninsula Grille, the restaurant's second location in Arnold, which has more of a family atmosphere than the flagship Federal Hill location.
"Each one of our locations, rather than being exactly the same, kind of takes on a little bit of the personality of the neighborhood that's it's in," Rather said. "The menu's the same and the atmostphere's the same, but some of the cosmetic details are a little bit different."
The Timonium restaurant won't be the last for Mother's. Rather said he also has a fourth restaurant in the works in Howard County. He declined to disclose the exact location, but said it's part of a new construction project and should open in the first quarter of 2017.
As with Rather's other restaurants, Mother's North Grille will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner made from scratch, and the bar will have 20 taps. The new restaurant will seat about 195 guests.
