What to eat at Thursday's Washington Monument lighting

Here's what to eat and drink at tomorrow's Washington Monument lighting.

The 45th annual lighting of Mount Vernon's Washington Monument won't be without plenty of food and drink options to keep onlookers full and warm.

More than 15 local restaurants, offering dishes from doughnuts to pizza, will turn out Thursday to feed attendees at the lighting ceremony from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mount Vernon Place.

Food vendors include Dizzy Cow Pizzeria, Delmarva Popcorn, The Verandah, Zeke's Coffee, Blue Moon Cafe, Nando's Peri-Peri, Baltimore Waffles, Cazbar, Homeslyce, Chick-fil-A and BricknFire Pizza Co. The event will also have food trucks on site, including Kooper's Chowhound Burger Wagon, Slainte on Wheels, Flash Crabcake Co., Olivia's Organics, Deddle's Donuts and Gypsy Queen Cafe.

Two bars at the event will also serve beer, wine and cocktails.

The restaurants and food trucks will be among more than 30 vendors and sponsors with booths and displays at the gathering.

The festivities start at 5 p.m. Thursday and end with the lighting of the monument and a fireworks display. Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. and a family chosen by Baltimore’s Ronald McDonald House Charities will flip the switch around 7:45 p.m. to illuminate the monument and kick-start the fireworks finale.
