Miss Shirley's, the pride of Alonsoville, famous for its rib-sticking breakfasts, quietly opened its third location on Monday, in Annapolis' Park Plaza building.
The new West Street location, adjacent to the Westin Annapolis, seats 160 diners in a main dining room, private dining room and seated bar. There is, weather permitting, additional outside dining.
The Annapolis location, like the two in Baltimore, does not take reservations. The hours are the same in Annapolis, too: Mon.-Fri., 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sat.-Sun., 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Miss Shirley's goes to Annapolis
There are sweet mountains to climb at Miss Shirley's, French toast stuffed with coconut cream or strawberry cheesecake. But the Everest of calories at Baltimore's beloved breakfast stop is the Crab Cristo -- jumbo-lump crab meat, smoked ham and Swiss cheese, sandwiched in French Toast, deep-fried and drizzled with a creamy honey mustard and citrus aioli. Finally, chef Brigitte Bledsoe's sweet-and-salty fantasia gets dusted with powdered sugar and Old Bay. It's the best version of the Monte Cristo since the old days at Gampy's, when the fried sandwiches were dipped in blueberry sauce. (Barbara Haddock Taylor, Baltimore Sun)
