Local coffee shops will transform into mini Luke's Diners as part of 'Gilmore Girls' promotion

Coffee shops around the country, including a handful in Maryland, are transforming to Luke's Diner, a central hangout in "Gilmore Girls," on Oct. 5.

Baltimore will look a little more like Stars Hollow on Wednesday, with a handful of local coffee shops set to give away free coffee as part of a national promotion ahead of the "Gilmore Girls" reboot.

About 200 coffee shops nationwide will offer the promotion, posing as pop-up locations of Luke's Diner. The fictional Luke's was a central meeting spot in the TV series "Gilmore Girls," where main characters Lorelai and Rory Gilmore often fueled their caffeine addiction.

Charmington's is just one of the shops in Maryland that will be branded as a mini-Luke's. The Remington coffee shop will give away 250 free cups of coffee from 7 a.m. to noon, according to its Facebook page.

Other local participating shops, according to townofstarshollow.org, include 3 Bean Coffee, The Bun Shop (both locations) and the Daily Grind in Baltimore, as well as Bump 'n Grind in Silver Spring.

The promotion takes place on the anniversary of the first episode of "Gilmore Girls," which premiered Oct. 5, 2000.

The popular show, which centers on a single mother raising her daughter and originally aired from 2000 to 2007, will make a comeback on Thanksgiving when Netflix releases a four-part mini-series, "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life."
