Kevin Morby mentions Freddie Gray in new song to benefit gun control advocacy

Indie folk/rock musician Kevin Morby today released a new song dedicated to "the innocent people who were out living their lives and one day, without warning, had them taken away from them."

The song includes mention of Freddie Gray, who died in April last year from injuries suffered while in Baltimore Police custody.

"And if I die too young for something I ain't done, carry my name every day / Oh I'm sorry, oh I'm sorry, Freddie Gray," Morby sings.

The song, titled "Beautiful Strangers," also pays tribute to the victims of Orlando's Pulse nightclub shooting in June and last year's terrorist attacks in Paris.

Proceeds from purchasing the song will go to Everytown for Gun Safety, Morby wrote. The release also includes Morby's cover of "No Place To Fall" by Townes Van Zandt; proceeds from that song will also support the gun control advocacy organization.

The release follow's April's full-length "Singing Saw."
