Plenty of rap fans miss the old Kanye West. Count Brian Strumke, founder of Baltimore's Stillwater Artisanal craft beer company, among them.
Late last month, Stillwater began shipping its "Life of Pablo"-inspired beer called I Miss the Old Kanye, "a deconstructed Dr. Pepper inspired porter," according to the brand's Facebook page. Of Love and Regret, Stillwater's brick-and-mortar bar and restaurant in Brewers Hill, has it on draft and for sale by bottle, according to the bar's Facebook page.
The 8 percent ABV imperial porter features bottle artwork in the style of West's "Life of Pablo" cover art.
This is not the first music-inspired beer for Strumke, who was an international techno DJ and producer before starting Stillwater. Earlier this year, Stillwater released the Drake-inspired Hopvine Bling, a dry-hopped Berline Weisse with sauvignon blanc grapes. It was a collaboration with New York's Hudson Valley Brewery.
In recent years, Stillwater also produced its "Sensory Series," a collaborative project with acts like Baltimore's Lower Dens, the Denver indie-pop act Tennis, and Brooklyn, N.Y., indie-rock quartet Small Black. Each collaboration resulted in a limited-edition beer inspired by the music.
Of Love and Regret is located at 1028 S. Conkling St. (and is open from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight). For more information, go to ofloveandregret.com. For more information on Stillwater, go to stillwater-artisanal.com.
