Justin Bieber to play Royal Farms Arena next summer

Justin Bieber to perform in Baltimore in July 2016.

Polarizing pop singer Justin Bieber will headline Royal Farms Arena on July 7, promoter AEG Live announced on Wednesday via press release. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Nov. 21 at aeglive.com.

The Baltimore date is a part of the Purpose World Tour, which will hit more than 50 cities starting in March. For locals fans who can't make the Royal Farms Arena show, Bieber will also play Washington's Verizon Center on April 29. (Tickets go on sale same time as Baltimore date.)

Bieber's fourth album, "Purpose," will be released Friday. It features two hits — "What Do You Mean" and "Sorry" — that have gone a long way in getting the 21-year-old taken more seriously as an artist. They also reflect Bieber's evolving sound, which leans heavily on elements of electronic dance music. This transition began in earnest in February, when Bieber released "Where Are U Now" with Jack U, the production team of Skrillex and Diplo.

Bieber first became a star as a Canadian kid posting YouTube videos of himself playing music, which led to a record deal and his 2010 debut album "My World 2.0." Since then, his music career and personal life have been followed with equal fervor, with the latter sometimes overshadowing it all. He has dated the actress and singer Selena Gomez, and been arrested on separate occassions for DUI, assault and vandalism.
