We're dealing with good and bad news this week. First, the upside: some decent-sized acts come to town this week. The bad: they're practically all jam-packed into the coming weekend. In other words, choose wisely.
On Monday, you don't have many options, but feel free to check out 98 Rock's Noise in the Basement at Baltimore Soundstage. For $5, you can see local bands (this week's include Anoxia, Never Thought and more), drop off your own demo and get an open bar for the first 98 minutes. Purchase tickets here.
On Tuesday, Soundstage is your best bet again. Grammy-award-winning guitarist Eric Johnson and his Electric Band take the stage. Dreamboat Armada opens. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available here.
On Wednesday, Thievery Corporation begins its string of sold-out shows at D.C.'s 9:30 Club. If you missed out on tickets but still want to spend humpday in Washington, check out the Chariots at the Black Cat. Veteran punk dudes doing ska/reggae party jams. Tickets, only $8, are available here.
On Thursday, local, acoustic six-piece Medicine Lake plays Rams Head Live. Monteclair and Soul Cannon will perform as well. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, $10, are available here.
On Friday, things start to pick up. Chilled-out road warrior G. Love and Special Sauce play Rams Head Live. Kristy Lee also performs. Tickets, $25, are available here. Also: Stereo Faith plays Golden West Cafe. If you're in Annapolis, the Smithereens play Rams Head on Stage.
On Saturday, the Ice Jam at Sonar kicks off. The hardcore/screamo/etc. two-festival features August Burns Red and Silverstein on Day 1. Day 2, on Sunday, features Attack Attack! and I See Stars. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 day-of and $45 for the two-day pass. On Saturday, it kicks off at 1 p.m — grab tickets here. Other options: the I Heart Toubin event at Metro Gallery is a dance-party fundraiser for the recently injured DJ Jonathan Toubin. Read more about the event here. Circa Survive's Anthony Green ($16) plays a solo show at Recher Theatre on Saturday, too.
