It's Eat a Peach Day

A classic Baltimore peach cake is something you buy, not something you make. You can try to make your own version, but it won't be a Baltimore bakery peach cake. It might be more wholesome, prettier or even more respectful of the essence of the peach, but by making it better, you'll have made it worse. That's a hard lesson for bakers to learn. In 2011, The Baltimore Sun rounded up 10 peach cakes -- three from independent grocery stores, one from an artisan bakery, one from an orchard market and the rest from independent neighborhood bakeries.
