Iron Rooster, a "scratch country kitchen" serving breakfast all day, opens Thursday in Annapolis.
The location, 12 Market Space, is known to Annapolitans as the longtime home of Maria's Sicilian Ristorante & Cafe, a 40-year-old restaurant that closed this summer when owner, Maria Priola, decided to retire.
The restaurant's owner, Kyle Algaze, said that Iron Rooster will fill a niche in the Annapolis dining scene with its all-day menu of breakfast favorites, which will be supplemented with more conventional lunch and dinner items, as well as beer, wine and liquor as the day goes on. The restaurant will be open until 10 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on weekends.
Renovated by its new owners — who include local businessmen Carl Werner and Peter Damon — the 5,000 square-foot Market Place restaurant dates to 1906 and features private dining rooms on its second floor with views of downtown Annapolis and the harbor.
On the menu - six versions of eggs Benedict, chicken and waffles, corn beef hash, Belgian waffles and shrimp and grits. And there's this -- the Waffle Burger, ground beef, brisket, lettuce, tomato, garlic aioli and cheese on a waffle bun.
