Marta Ines Quintana is closing Havana Road Cuban Cafe, her 4-year-old restaurant on West Allegheny Avenue in Towson.
Quintana, who leases the commercial property, said she has sublet the space to Lisa Heckman and Peter Wood, the husband-and-wife restaurateurs who sold their Mount Vernon restaurant Iggies in July to Jim Pak, a retired pharmacist.
Reached by phone, Heckman confirmed the transaction but said she wasn't ready to reveal details about plans for the new restaurant.
Quintana said she is closing Havana Road to focus on a potential major expansion her Havana Road line of refrigerated Cuban meals.
"I am sad," Quintana said. "But sometimes you know when it's time. The chef part of me wanted to stay. I had to weigh my options. My opportunities are immense."
Quintana said the last day of operations for Havana Road will be Sept. 21.
"Everybody gets complimentary virgin mojitos until then," Quintana said.
Diners at Havana Road can spruce of those mojitos with their own rum. The restaurant has a BYOB policy.
