Greg's Bagels closes as owner undergoes surgery, plans to reopen in fall

In the premiere episode of Food Faceoff, Capital Gazette reporter Christina Jedra takes us on a quest around Anne Arundel County to find her favorite bagel. As a New Jersey native, she's a self described "Bagel Snob," and she won't rest until she finds a bagel that reminds her of home. (Ulysses Munoz and Christina Jedra / BSMG)

Greg's Bagels at Belvedere Square has closed its doors so owner Greg Novik can tend to his health.

The shop closed Monday with tentative plans to reopen in September. The answering machine at the bagel shop plays a message from Novik, who explains he is having abdominal and pancreatic surgery.

"I do no know how long it will take or what the outcome will be," he says.

If all goes well, he hopes to reopen the shop in September. A sign on the shop's door conveys the same message.
