If '90s radio-rock still holds a place in your heart, it might be time to clear the calendar for May 15.
On that Friday, Gin Blossoms, Fuel and Vertical Horizon — a trio of platinum-selling rock bands from the recent past — will perform at Pimlico Race Course as part of the Black-Eyed Susan Day concert, the Maryland Jockey Club announced today. If that is not enough nostalgia, The Reagan Years, an '80s-tribute band from Frederick, will also take the stage, along with New York-based country singer Margaret Valentine.
This year, the Black-Eyed Susan Day concert is one aspect of what the Jockey Club is calling "The Ultimate Girls Day Out." It will also include horseracing handicapping seminars, a "Hooves & Heels" fashion event, a "power luncheon" and more, according to a press release. Tickets for the event ($10-$40), including admission to the concert, are on sale now at ticketfly.com.
Can you name the most recognizable hit from each band without resorting to Google? (Two of the three were genuinely great!) Gin Blossoms kicked it off in 1992 with "Hey Jealousy,"Fuel lived on the radio and MTV in 1998 with "Shimmer" and Vertical Horizon (who formed in D.C.) rode the wave of "Everything You Want"into the new millennium.
The 2015 tentative lineup:
11:30 a.m.: Margaret Valentine
12:30 p.m.: The Reagan Years
2 p.m.: Vertical Horizon
3:45 p.m.: Fuel
5:30 p.m.: Gin Blossoms
