Frederick's Flying Dog Brewery is no stranger to collaborations resulting in new beers. But next month, they'll debut something new and unexpected: a pumpkin-beer-and-sea-salt chocolate bar.

Flying Dog teamed with Carroll County's Salazon Chocolate Co., which claims to be the first brand to launch a salted chocolate bar, to create the 72 percent organic dark chocolate Pumpkin Beer bar. The seasonal bar features ingredients Flying Dog uses to make its Gourd Standard pumpkin IPA, including German Noble hops and its pumpkin spice blend, according to a news release.

It would be easy to assume Frederick's Flying Dog Brewery has always been a Maryland business.

Starting Sept. 1, the product will be available for purchase on Salazon's website, Flying Dog's tasting room, select Whole Foods Markets, Safeway, Earth Fare, MOM's Organic Markets, New Seasons Markets and some independent natural food stores, the release stated. Suggested retail price per bar is $4, according to Flying Dog's Erin Weston.

Located in Eldersburg, Salazon was founded in 2009. Its line of chocolate bars includes flavors like sea salt and cayenne, Caramel Peanut Crunch using Fisher's Popcorn, gin, granola and more.

In recent years, Flying Dog has collaborated with Old Bay and Otterbein's Bakery. The latter resulted in a cookie-flavored beer, but no beer-flavored cookies.
