The English experimental R&B artist FKA Twigs will host a free dance workshop tonight in Baltimore from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Baltimore Lithuanian Hall. The "Two Weeks" singer first announced the event Monday on Twitter, and her label, Young Turks, confirmed the news.
Twigs, the 28-year-old born Tahliah Barnett, is in town for her Wednesday concert at Pier Six Pavilion with rapper Travis Scott. On Twitter, she announced she will invite dancers from the workshop — which will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Baltimore Lithuanian Hall (851 Hollins St., Hollins Market) — to perform at the concert.
"free workshop intermediate & advanced level, all styles age 18+ welcome," Twigs wrote on Twitter. "the workshop will be filmed … excited to meet you, share ideas and dance together baltimore!"
Twigs' career began as a background dancer in music videos by pop artists like Jessie J and Ed Sheeran. But since the release of 2013's "EP2," Twigs has been a favorite in critics' circles for her gorgeously icy takes on R&B. Her songs — which have earned comparisons to Bjork, Tricky and Janet Jackson — are difficult to categorize, and Twigs has rejected hewing to specific genres in the past.
In August, Twigs released "M3LL155X" (pronounced "Melissa"), her third EP and the follow-up project to her debut album, 2014's "LP1." Twigs put out a new single, "Good to Love," in February.
