Encantada, the new restaurant from Birroteca owner Robbin Haas, will open July 1 at the American Visionary Art Museum.

First announced in December, Encantada takes over the space formerly home to Mr. Rain's Fun House, which closed last June.

Encantada, which will serve lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, will offer a menu of mostly vegetable-based small- and medium-sized plates. There will be meat on the menu, but it will play a supporting role in most dishes, according to Haas.

The menu is divided into loose categories. The "Back to Your Roots" section, for instance, includes dishes built around root vegetables like turnips, sweet potatoes, sunchokes and carrots, while "Leafy Things" has dishes based on kale, zucchini and mixed greens. "A Walk in the Woods" features dishes with mushrooms and truffles.

At lunch and dinner, diners can order from Encantada's juice bar, which will serve a menu of 20 smoothies and vegetable and fruit combinations. Alcohol will also be served.

The restaurant's name, a Spanish expression similar to the English phrases "enchanted" and "charmed," is a also a play on Baltimore's nickname, Charm City, according to Haas.

Before Mr. Rain's Fun House opened at AVAM in 2009, the third-floor space was occupied by several distinct versions of Joy America Cafe, including Peter Zimmer's 1996 original and, later, a Mexican-themed restaurant operated by Spike Gjerde, now of Woodberry Kitchen.

AVAM is at 800 Key Highway. For more information, call 410-752-1000 or go to Encantada's Facebook page.
