Comptroller has a commendation for Koco's

Each week from their tiny kitchen, Joanna Kocovinos and her daughter Marcella Knight turn out 500 crab cakes for local consumption and for shipping. (Kenneth K. Lam / Baltimore Sun photo)

Every now and again, Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot will dash off a Certificate of Recognition for a meritorious Maryland business.

Today, Franchot is scheduled to stop by Koco's Pub up on Harford Road where he'll be presenting one of those certificates to Koco's owners John and Joanna Kocovinos and their daughter Marcella Knight.

The certificate will recognize Koco's "for its reputation as a wonderful, neighborhood gathering place, its welcoming and friendly atmosphere, its award-winning Koco's Crab Cake -- made with a secret family recipe -- and award-winning chicken wings," according to a media alert from the comptroller's office.
