Coldplay will perform at the Verizon Center July 8

, it was announced Thursday morning.

: the band added a second show, on July 9, due to "overwhelming demand," according to an announcement from Live Nation.

The show is part of the band's first American tour in nearly three years. The British pop band is promoting new album "Xyloto."

Tickets for both dates, starting at $64.35 , go on sale December 17.
