Six Baltimore chefs will put their bartending skills to the test in a charity cocktail competition next week.
Chefs Behind Bars, a fundraiser to benefit Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign, will pit six local chefs against one another as they craft drinks on Wit & Wisdom's waterfront patio in Harbor East.
The event will be held June 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Chefs participating in the competition include Josh Brown (Fox's Den), Opie Crooks (Woodberry Kitchen), Chad Gauss (The Food Market), Ben Lefenfeld (La Cuchara), Zack Mills (Wit & Wisdom) and Bryan Voltaggio (Aggio).
Each chef will be paired with a liquor sponsor to create his signature drink. The spirits include Barr Hill Gin, Papa's Pilar (both blonde and dark varieties), WhistlePig Rye Whiskey, One Eight Distilling's Rock Creek Whiskey and Belle Isle Craft Spirits' Ruby Red Grapefruit moonshine.
Guests will have a chance to taste each cocktail and vote for their favorite. A people's choice award will go to the chef with the most cash tips, and a judges' choice award will be based on ratings from a panel of local judges.
Tickets — $45 in advance or $50 at the door — include samples of each chef's cocktail and passed appetizers. All proceeds from the event will go to Share Our Strength.
