Alewife executive chef Chad Wells is leaving his post at the west-side pub to help oversee the growth of a Howard County restaurant group.

Wells will start as the corporate chef for the Victoria Restaurant Group on July 18.

The group owns Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia and Manor Hill Brewing in Ellicott City, and has two more locations in the works: Food Plenty in Clarksville and Manor Hill Tavern in Ellicott City. Wells will help oversee the kitchens at each of their restaurants.

Wells said he'd been a fan of Victoria Gastro Pub, which has a concept similar to Alewife's. He didn't hesitate to get in touch with the group when he heard it was looking for a chef to lead its growing operations.

"I reached out to them immediately because I want to be a part of that growth," he said in an interview.

Wells, who has been with Alewife for most of the past six years, announced the departure with a post on his Facebook page.

He said his replacement has been named, but he declined to disclose the new chef's identity.

Owner Bryan Palombo said Wednesday that he planned to announce the new chef next week.
