Chazz: A Bronx Original, a Harbor East restaurant named for and partly owned by the actor Chazz Palminteri, has closed, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.
The restaurant's website has gone down, and its Facebook page and listing on Open Table have been taken down as well.
Chazz' co-owner Sergio Vitale acknowledged the closure on his personal Facebook page but referred questions about the restaurant's status to Artios Retail, a Bel Air-based real estate firm, which referred questions to Roger J. Sullivan, a Bel Air-based lawyer. Sullivan was not immediately available for comment.
The restaurant was a collaboration between Palminteri and the Vitale family, the owners of Aldo's in Little Italy. Palminteri is an Oscar-nominated actor best known for creating and performing in the one-man play "A Bronx Tale" and for writing the screenplay and starring in a movie adaptation directed by Robert De Niro.
A representative for Aldo's said it will honor Chazz gift certificates at their full value beginning March 1.
