Cedar Cafe in East Towson has grand opening tomorrow

Cedar Cafe in Towson has been open for a year, but the Middle Easern cafe is having its official grand opening on Saturday.

Owner Buthaina Mansour said she took over the Burke Avenue space about a year ago but did no marketing or advertising. Instead, she renovated the space entirely. Now that those renovations are done, Mansour said, she's ready for company.

The cafe's menu includes Middle Eastern staples like humus, baba ghanoush, shawarma, falafel and charcoal kebabs. The highest-priced item is lamb kebab at $13.95.

The festivities at Cedar Cafe will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with Fifth District County Councilman David Marks. There will also be some complimentary food at the gathering, said Mansour, who added that the party will be like a neighborhood cookout.

Cedar Cafe occupies the lower level of the free-standing shingled building where Burke Avenue meets Hillen Road. There was previously another Mediterranean eatery named Cedar Deli in the spot, which was also a sub shop and convenience store.

The grand opening part will go from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cedar Cafe is at 246 Burke Ave. For information call 443-275-2592 or go to www.cedarcafeshop.com.
