Cava Mezze, serving modern Greek, opens in Harbor East

Cava Mezze opens Monday in Harbor East. This is the fourth location, and the first in Baltimore, for the modern-Greek restaurant, which was founded in 2006 in Rockville by childhood friends Dimitri Moshovitis, Ike Grigoropoulos and Ted Xenohristos.

The 120-seat restaurant, which occupies a street-level storefront in the new Hyatt Place building, will serve dinner daily, with a weekend brunch service coming later this month, according to a news release. And coming in early July to an adjacent space - Brusco, a sandwich shop that will serve a daily changing menu.

Menu staples at Cava Mezze include hand-rolled grape leaves, tableside flambeed saganaki and braised Elysian Farm lamb shank. The Baltimore location will serve such exclusive seafood dishes as ouzo-scented cuttelfish, snapper with warm hummus and branzino wiht fingerling potatoes and kalamata olive tapenade.

The 14-tap will focus on brews from Maryland and Washington, according to information from Cava Mezze. The restaurant is not taking reservations.
