Blue Moon Cafe, the popular Fells Point eatery known for its scrumptious breakfast options, has opened up a second, larger location in Federal Hill today -- two years later than expected.
Owner Sarah Simington has grown accustom to the waiting game.
"I feel like I'm giving birth," she said with a laugh. "The gestation has been a year and a half. And I've gained 20 pounds. I'm ready to go."
Simington, 41, said she originally wanted to open in Federal Hill on Aug. 10, 2014. But a series of renovation delays thwarted that plan.
"Everything happens for a reason," she said. "Now we'll be open just in time for football season."
The larger space, also known as Blue Moon Too, at 1024 Light St. — 3,400-square-feet compared to the 950-square-feet Fells Point location — will allow the new restaurant to host private events and expand its catering abilities.
The new restaurant will seat up to 99 people. The Fells Point location seats 35.
"Hopefully they'll [customers] have their socks blown off," she said. "It's pretty freaking cool. It's a grander level."
The new digs will feature an espresso bar, a smoothie station and a "huge kitchen," Simington gushed.
"It's 50 feet smaller than the entire other restaurant," she said in reference to the size of the new kitchen.
Simington said she got the urge to expand almost three years ago while on a trip to Taiwan.

"I was hanging out with my peers and restaurant chefs," she explained. "It gave me that excitement. I realized I just wanted to keep expanding. I got these lightening bolts."
