At Thursday's press conference, which featured brief remarks from Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore Ravens president Dick Cass, a recent example of a major concert's economic impact on the city was revealed. Billy Joel, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member with more than 150 million records sold worldwide, will perform at M&T Bank Stadium on July 25, according to Live Nation. The concert's formal announcement — featuring Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore Ravens president Dick Cass — will occur at the stadium Thursday morning.

The 65-year-old New York singer-songwriter behind hits like "Piano Man," "Uptown Girl" and "New York State of Mind" last performed in the region in July at Nationals Park in Washington.

Joel's M&T Bank Stadium show comes less than a month before British pop group One Direction takes its stage on Aug. 8. Beyonce and Jay Z's On the Run show in July was the last concert M&T Bank Stadium hosted.
