This weekend, there won't be any hurricanes, tropical storms, and hopefully, no earthquakes, to intervene with your nightlife plans. The week starts off slow then shifts into high gear - har har - with the Grand Prix on Friday, which will be a major headache, for traffic anyway. Elsewhere: Pictureplane, White Life, Stevie Nicks, and Journey.
On Monday, Pictureplane, Butt Stomach (Dan Deacon and Kevin O'Meara's noise project), Lizz King, Narwhalz, and Mark Brown perform at the Depot, 1728 N. Charles St. 9 p.m. Cover is between $5 and $7. Note, from the event's Facebook page: "LIMITED CAPACITY!"
On Tuesday, Golden West Cafe, at 1105 W. 36th Street, hosts a Super Smash Bros. Nintendo 64 Challenge. 10 p.m. $3 sign-up fee.
On Wednesday, White Life, Moss of Aura (Gerrit Welmers of Future Islands), Breeze, and Schwarz perform at the Floristree, 405 W. Franklin St. 9 p.m. $5.
On Thursday, Jukebox The Ghost, Sam Roberts Band, Ha Ha Tonka perform at Mount Vernon Park, 1300 Charles Street, as part of WTMD's First Thursdays summer series. 5:30 p.m. Free. Also: Jimmy Buffett will be performing at Jiffy Lube Live.
On Friday, the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix kicks off. Concerts are scheduled, but, more interestingly, so are a couple of beer gardens: at Alewife, at 21 N. Eutaw Street, and the new Leinenkugel's, at 20 Market Place, which will open in soft mode. Alewife's beer garden will be open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday. For Leinenkugel's beer menu, click here.
On Saturday, the great Stevie Nicks performs at Jiffy Lube Live, 7800 Cellar Door Drive, Bristow, Virginia. 8 p.m. Tickets start at $26.
On Sunday, Journey and Knight Ranger will perform at Jiffy Lube Live. The show had been originally scheduled for this past weekend but had to be rescheduled because of Irene. Because of a scheduling conflict, Foreigner will not perform at the concert. 7 p.m. Tickets start at $25.
