Aromes in Hampden for sale as owner prepares to open new restaurant

Aromes, the small French restaurant in Hampden, is for sale as the owner readies to open another restaurant in Baltimore.

Owner and chef Steve Monnier is asking $200,000 for the restaurant at 3520 Chestnut Ave.

Aromes opened in early 2015. The 28-seat restaurant offers a daily tasting menu that changes weekly with four plates for $45 or six courses for $65.

Monnier said he's already received some interest for prospective buyers. Aromes will remain open for now; Monnier said he's selling because he doesn't want to split his time between two restaurants.

"I cannot be at both places," he said.

Monnier was mum on details regarding his next project, but said the new restaurant would be a French bistro downtown with about 50 seats and a tasting room. He expects it to open next year.
