Future Islands' auction of 'Letterman' items to fund rebuilding after Baltimore unrest

Add Future Islands to the list of Baltimore bands finding their own way to contribute to the city's recovery after the unrest surrounding Freddie Gray's death. And the trio's famous "Late Show with David Letterman" performance, which you can watch above, is involved, too.

On Thursday afternoon, the band put one-of-a-kind Future Islands memorabilia on eBay, with all proceeds going to the Baltimore Community Foundation's Fund for Rebuilding Baltimore. The description of the auction — which is scheduled to end May 17 — also states the band will match the money raised up to $5,000.

The haul includes singer Sam Herring's Converse high tops (size 11, and still currently on his feet, apparently) from the Letterman performance, the cue cards from Letterman's introduction of the band, an autographed copy of the band's "Singles" LP, an autographed art print of the band's "On the Water" cover, a copy of the out-of-print "Port Office Wave Chapel" 12-inch remix EP from 2010 and a copy of 2012's split seven-inch record with Ed Schrader's Music Beat.

After 36 bids, the auction's highest bid was $1,725 as of Friday afternoon. Future Islands' next show is May 16, when they play the main stage at Alabama's three-day Hangout Festival.
