Young burglars nabbed after grabbing 9 weapons from home, cops say

An extensive search took place in a Pembroke Pines neighborhood near the 9000 block of Northwest 18th Court Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2019. Police say 4 juvenile burglars were arrested and 9 weapons they stole from a home were recovered.

A 911 call from a child care center launched an extensive search in Pembroke Pines that led to the arrest of a group of juvenile burglars and the recovery of the weapons they stole, according to police.

The call — alerting police to a nearby suspicious incident — came shortly before 2:45 p.m. Wednesday and led officers to the 9000 block of Northwest 18th Court. The neighborhood is between Taft and Sheridan streets and just west of Douglas Road.

“As the first responding police officer arrived, a burglary in-progress was discovered and the suspects were noticed taking multiple firearms from the victim’s home,” Pembroke Pines Police Capt. Adam Feiner said by email.

The police arrival sent the burglars scattering, but three of the four were quickly rounded up. The fourth was discovered hiding in a tool shed, Feiner said.

Police did not describe the types of firearms that were taken, but all nine were returned to their owner.

The four juveniles taken into custody are facing multiple charges including armed burglary, burglary and trespassing.

According to police, a silver Nissan Altima might be associated with the burglary, but investigators have no other information about the vehicle.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the burglary or the automobile to contact Pembroke Pines police at 954-431-2200 or by email at Tips can also be made, anonymously, to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
