HER STORY: Jessica Bowling, 30, was born in Mocksville, N.C. She works as director of sales and marketing at GrandView Aviation. Her father, Art Bowling, lives in Asheville, N.C. Her mother, Kathy Foster-Jordan, and stepfather, Steven Jordan, live in Morehead City, N.C.
HIS STORY: Dan Naor, 52, was born in Ramat HaSharon, Israel. He works as chief operations officer of GrandView Aviation and Baltimore Marine Centers. His mother, Bracha Naor, lives in Haifa, Israel.
THEIR STORY: The two met as a result of their nautical connection in 2010.
Jessie kept her sailboat at Harborview Marine Center. Dan’s company, Baltimore Marine Centers, acquired the marina in 2010. (They eventually ended up working together at GrandView Aviation.)
“We met in the spring, and after one date, we were inseparable,” she said.
Jessie was immediately intrigued by Dan.
“The first thing I noticed was Dan’s accent, but I couldn’t tell where he was from,” she said. “To this day, we don’t always understand each other but after seven years together, I’m almost an expert in ‘Dan-glish.’ ”
Although the two met as a result of the water, they bonded over their love of flight.
“We really bonded over our mutual love of aviation,” she said. “I was training to be an air traffic controller at the time and Dan was a recreational helicopter pilot, so we had a lot in common.”
She added: “I don’t think there was a moment we even said we were a couple. We just were immediately.”
They live in Guilford.
THE PROPOSAL: Dan proposed in July 2015 on one of the docks at the Inn at Perry Cabin on the Eastern Shore.
They regularly visit the Eastern Shore on “beautiful days” to have lunch and walk around the “adorable towns,” according to Jessie.
One of the couple’s first getaways together was at the Inn at Perry Cabin, so the spot had special meaning, she said.
“I was thrilled,” Jessie said. “We’ve been together a long time, and I knew he was the one for a long time.”
VENUE: One hundred ten guests attended the wedding and reception at the Evergreen Museum and Library.
FLOWERS AND DECOR: The colors for the wedding were navy, gold and blush. Flowers were provided by Fluttering Flowers of Norfolk, Va. Flowers included blue and white hydrangeas, blue delphinium, peach dahlias and ivory freesia. Their wedding planner was Staci Jelley of Norfolk, Va.
THE DRESS: Jessie wore a handmade lace gown by Italian designer Le Spose di Gio from Kleinfeld Bridal in Manhattan.
BRIDESMAIDS’ ATTIRE: Bridesmaids wore blush satin and chiffon gowns from White by Vera Wang.
MEN’S ATTIRE: Dan wore a navy blue Hugo Boss suit. Groomsmen wore dress khakis and white shirts with feather boutonnieres.
MUSIC: DJ Jimmy Nalley provided the music. The couple’s first dance was to Louis Armstrong’s “La Vie En Rose.”
FOOD AND DESSERT: Rouge Fine Catering provided the food. The welcome drink was glasses of Prosecco with a strawberry popsicle. Appetizers included lamb and plantain koftas, chicken and waffles, deviled eggs, and zucchini and feta cheese wraps. Dinner consisted of short ribs, parmesan-crusted chicken breast, mango salmon and vegetable napoleon. The couple also served a Beurre Noisette cake with buttercream icing from Charm City Cakes.
FAVORS: The couple handed out jars of honey.
SPECIAL TOUCHES: The couple just returned from their honeymoon in Aruba. Jessie and Dan wanted to combine their cultures — she’s Southern and he’s from Israel — so the menu consisted of classic Southern and Mediterranean dishes.
