Pets for Patriots

Know a veteran who could use a little love? The Baltimore Humane Society has established a new partnership with Pets for Patriots designed to offer support and companionships to both retired military service members and last-chance shelter animals.

Veterans are eligible to adopt pets for free from the Baltimore Humane Society after being approved for pet ownership by Pets for Patriots. They also receive a 10 percent lifetime discount on care at the society’s low-cost Spay/Neuter Center, a 20 percent discount on lifetime veterinary care at Perry Hall Animal Hospital, a $150 giftcard to help with food and other essentials, and free membership in Pets for Patriots, which works to ease the stress of post-military transition through the adoption of adult or special-needs shelter pets.

Eligible pets include adult dogs and cats; large dogs (more than 40 pounds) regardless of age; and animals that are disabled, otherwise physically limited, or have medical conditions that require medication or other treatment.

Organizers say the partnership offers a win-win, providing loving homes to pets who need them while helping military personnel transition to post-service life through the unconditional love and responsibility of pet ownership.

Veterans can apply for the program through Pets for Pariots at Most applications are approved in one to two business days; after that, the prospective pet owners can visit the Baltimore Humane Society for assistance choosing heir new best friends.
