Weekend Pet Expo to take over Timonium

It's time for the World of Pets Expo, an annual winter favorite of area animal lovers.

Unlike a lot of dog-centric shows in town, the expo has plenty to offer fans of kitties, birds, reptiles and small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs and gerbils. Most of those animals will be there, for people to see and possibly pet.

For the dog folks, pups on leashes are welcome at the show. And then they'll be plenty of fun dog things to watch -- like agility demos, soaring leaps by Dock Dogs, the "Rainforst Experience" where the host shows off exotic animals and performances by the Boogie Woogie Bow Wows.

Experts will be giving talks about things like canine dentistry, raising home chickens and pet first aid.

Kitty lovers can see all breeds of show cats -- and wellbred house kitties, too -- at the Hidden Paw Cat Club show, which happens Saturday and Sunday.

Shopping is always a big part of the expo, with vendors selling treats, toys and pet accessories of every kind.

The three-day show, Friday to Sunday, happens at Maryland State Fairgrounds. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and free for kids younger than 5.

For more information and the full schedule, see the expo website.
