A satellite location of the Humane Society of Harford County called Rescue Me! located in Harford Mall will be closed as of Tuesday after two years of operation -- and nearly 500 cat and kitten adoptions.
The Humane Society is scheduled to open a new facility in Fallston at the end of the year.
"With the opening of the new shelter just months away, it makes sense to consolidate our operations under one roof," said Pete Hicks, president of HSHC's board of directors. "Plus, the new shelter has many of the same features as Rescue Me! at Harford Mall, with the advantage of more room and more staff to better serve the Harford County community."
The new 19,000-square-foot facility will be located on the same 26-acre property as the current shelter but will have 66 percent more dog and cat holding areas, two cat community rooms with outdoor access, a separate kitten room and nursery, private rooms in which to meet the new pet and a retail shop.
