Chained goat found wandering in Arundel

(Anne Arundel County Police Department)

Is anyone in Anne Arundel County -- or anywhere -- missing a goat?

A female in very poor condition that's being called Tuscany was found wandering near Linthicum on Thursday and county officials are trying to find out who she belongs to and how she got there.

Animal Control responded to a call on Friday after an 11-year-old found Tuscany on River Road in northern Linthicum.

The goat had a chain weighing more than 23 pounds hanging from her neck. Though the chain wasn't tight, it was so heavy that it had become embedded in the goat's neck.

The family brought the goat to Animal Control to help with the chain injury. Later Friday after surgery, the chain was removed.

County Animal Control officers are searching for any information about Tuscany, concerned about the goat's condition.

The agency is also reminding all pet owners -- of domestic or farm animals -- to always monitor the health and condition of their animals.

"No animal should have to suffer the pain Tuscany has endured," officials said in a release.

Tuscany will be monitored at Animal Control as she recovers.

Anyone with information on this animal or its owners is asked to contact Animal Control at 410-222-8900.
