BARCStoberfest THE place to be for Baltimore dogs on Saturday

(Jill Rosen)

BARCStobefest, one of Baltimore's biggest dog events, is Saturday. The forcast is calling for "brilliant sunshine" and a high in the 60s -- fate couldn't be saying, "Take that pup out," any clearer.

Not only is the event one of the biggest moneymakers for the city's neediest animals, it's a ton of fun for pets.

The highlight is the annual costume contest. You can enter a range of categories -- things like "Scariest," "Most Baltimore," "Cutest." And at the end of the day, the winners in each category compete against each other for the big title.

I'll be one of the judges this year (with Teddy Bean as consultant) along with John Rallo of Baltimore's new "Show Your Soft Side" campaign and a DJ from 98-Rock.

Meanwhile, dogs (including Bean) will be doing the Strut Your Mutt walk, dozens of vendors will be selling pet goodies, your pup will have a chance to try out Flyball -- and you can usually get your hands on some cool freebies.

Of course, lots of very cute adoptables will be there, if you're in the market for a furry one.

The event runs from 11 to 4 p.m. in front of Patterson Park's Pagoda. It's free to get in, but some things -- like entering the costume contest -- are a small fee.

All proceeds benefit the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter.
