Lots of people won't go to a shelter to meet dogs and cats because it's just too sad. "I want to bring all of them home," they say, and leaving so many behind is heartbreaking.
Thanks to an effort by artist Jay Wolf Schlossberg-Cohen and the seventh grade class at Temple Emanuel school, things at the Baltimore Humane Society are looking a little happier. The artist and the students will unveil a new mural they painted across the face of the Reisterstown shelter on Wednesday afternoon.
The mural depicts animals receiving loving care at the shelter and finding happy forever homes, and was designed to give visitors a cheerful experience from the front door in.
A number of community volunteer groups contributed to the mural project, including those from Reisterstown-Owings Mills-Glyndon Chamber of Commerce; Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops; Big Brother Big Sister of the Greater Chesapeake; Rebounders Gymnastics; St. Thomas Aquinas Church; Liberty High School Honor Society; T. Rowe Price; and the Baltimore Humane Society.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held this Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 4:30 p.m. at the shelter, 1601 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown, and the public is invited. For more information, visit bmorehumane.org.
