Prime pieces of farmland like this one on the auction block in northern Baltimore County are few and far between. Ideally situated among the rolling hills of Maryland's horse country, 4101 Butler Road in Glyndon is a 189-acre, horseshoe-shaped estate adjacent to Sagamore Farm, the well-known thoroughbred horse breeding center.

A completely renovated, 304-year-old farmhouse, with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, is nestled on the property. The current owners farm out portions of the land for soybean and hay. There is also a one-bedroom cottage on a 1-plus-acre building site.

The public auction for the property will be held Oct. 18 at 11 a.m on the property. Zoned as agricultural land, there are three separate tax IDs based on three separately deeded parcels. Interested parties must provide immediate access to $100,000 to begin the bidding, which opens at $3 million.

"This is the largest piece of land available for sale in Worthington Valley," said Jared Block, a listing agent and broker of sale with Alex Cooper Auctioneers Inc., in Towson. "The original home has its driveway off of Butler Road which is also its mailing address."

The main farmhouse features 3,250 square feet of living space on two levels, while the two-story cottage offers 2,500 square feet.

"There is significant interest in the property already," said Block. "It will sell and someone is going to get a very good deal."
