Lutherville company introduces Stan Lee cologne

Ever wonder what comic book icon Stan Lee smells like?

It's a mix of bergamot, ginger, white pepper, basil, violet, and finished off with cedar, vetiver and musk.

The creator of popular Marvel Comics characters such as the X-Men and the Hulk teamed with the Lutherville-based JADS International to create his namesake scent, Stan Lee Signature Cologne. The company describes the cologne as a "fresh and sophisticated fragrance for the adventurous."

Andrew Levine, 48, chief executive officer of JADS International, said the collaboration is the result of meeting Lee at a Comic-Con event in Philadelphia last year. Levine's company was fresh off of a line of scents revolving around characters from "The Avengers" movie.

"He loved what we did,": Levine said. "He joked and said: 'I never thought about how my characters smell.' He wanted to do something for his fans – on a personal basis. He wanted something that smelled like Iron Man and Captain America — great like that, but he wanted to have a little bit of spice to it. He wanted it to smell really good. And that's what we did."

Lee said fans of his comic books will enjoy a perfume that exudes super powers.

"Not only do I want fans to look sharp like their favorite superhero and their Generalissimo here," said Lee, "but I thought wouldn't it be fun to offer them the chance to smell like one too."

The cologne, which retails for $24.99, is available through the company's website,, and will also be sold at Comic-Con events and specialty stores. All production for JADS International is done at a facility in East Baltimore.

The company is also planning to launch a line of body spray aimed at the teen and tween market. WipeOut Body Spray is inspired by the ABC game show "Wipeout."

"I'm really excited about that," Levine said.
