What did Michelle Obama wear to meet the Pope?

It's a question most of us don't have to ponder, but what do you wear to meet the Pope?

If you're first lady Michelle Obama, known as much for her trend-setting stylish wardrobe as for her oft-critiqued arms and figure, you play it safe and demure.

And so do your daughters.

When the Obama family met Pope Francis on the red carpet at Joint Base Andrews as he arrived Tuesday for an historic visit to the United States, Michelle Obama was wearing a soft blue dress with a high cowl neck and not-too-short sleeves.

Her teenage daughters sported knee-length, flowy skirts with short-sleeved tops. Sasha Obama wore a pink, white and black color-blocked skirt, while her sister, Malia, wore a black-and-white print skirt. Both girls wore simple black tops.

President Obama wore a suit and a blue tie. Pope Francis' sartorial choices were even simpler, sticking with black shoes, his longtime choice, instead of the red slippers that are traditional.

We doubt either man spent much time choosing what to wear. As it should be.
